How to choose a villa entrance door: 8 things that decide it

The entrance door is the first thing visitors see, and also the door most exposed to sun, dust and daily use — so it deserves a careful choice. Here are the eight things we advise our clients to think about.

1. Size and proportion

A small door in a tall facade looks lost. Measure the entrance height and the distance to the ceiling, and consider a taller door or decorative extensions to fill the space.

2. Frame material

Aluminium is lighter than steel and doesn’t rust, which suits the Saudi climate. Clad steel is cheaper up front but heavier and can be affected by moisture. Natural wood is beautiful but needs constant care in the sun.

3. Thermal and sound insulation

The entrance door is part of the house’s envelope. Ask about insulation inside the door, such as rock wool and polystyrene, which cut the heat coming in and street noise.

4. How it opens

A pivot door for large, grand entrances, a concealed-hinge door for standard sizes, and double doors for very wide openings. Our pivot vs concealed-hinge comparison explains which suits you.

5. Finish and colour

Pick a finish that works with the facade stone and window colours. Finishes made for exterior use keep their look under the sun for longer.

6. Light and glass

A tall glass slit in the door or glass side panels bring light into the hallway — plan them with privacy and the sun’s direction in mind.

7. Security and the lock

Decide on the lock — conventional or smart — before manufacture so its position is prepared in the door. Hidden hinges also make the door harder to tamper with from outside.

8. Installation and warranty

The best door loses its value if badly installed. Choose a company that makes and installs its own doors, with a clear warranty and after-sales support. At Town Glass our own team installs, with a 10-year workmanship warranty.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing the door before the facade design is final.
  • Comparing on price alone without knowing what is under the cladding.
  • Ignoring a pivot door’s swing space.
  • Skipping insulation on a door that faces direct sun.
  • Leaving the lock decision until after manufacture.

Common questions

What is the best material for a villa entrance door in Saudi Arabia?

Aluminium faced with cladding is an excellent choice for the Saudi climate: light, rust-free, insulatable and available in many finishes.

When should I order the entrance door during construction?

Once the facade design and opening sizes are set, and before the final floor and wall finishes around the entrance, so the door and site can be coordinated.
